Good video. Statins are not a replacement for a diet low in saturated fat and regular exercise. Taking a pill won’t protect if your not doing these other things. Also drinking booze, smoking, high stress and a terrible diet won’t be offset by a statin. Aprox 60% of heart attacks are with people with normal cholesterol and/or on statins.

I think it’s amazing that these medication‘s are available if people have a genetic malfunction that causes these health concerns however, it’s not a replacement for eating a proper diet. Some people have this misconception that they can eat hamburgers and hotdogs and fried foods and do what they want, and all they have to do is take a pill, and it will magically protect them. The truth is it won’t -basically stop eating saturated fat foods and processed meats and eat a healthy diet and you don’t need to take a pill to fool yourself into believing you’re OK health wise while consuming a terrible diet.

Good video actually eating cholesterol can only raise cholesterol in a small way it is eating saturated fat that raises it.

So a phytosterol hyperabsorber would not benefit from zetia then - someone with variations in the SNPs for ABCG5 and G8 receptors? Fatigue, loose stool and nausea may be common but those are NOT small side effects. If you had those without the meds you would be trying to figure out WTH is wrong. HMG CoA reductase (mevalonate pathway) being disrupted also reduces production of MK4, geranylgeraniol and CoQ10. So perhaps doubling down on living better should prevail over meds.

Thank you for this and your other videos! You've answered questions that I've had, but as is always the case, raise new ones in their place. I'm wondering about the inputs to the cholesterol synthesis process when HMG-CoA is blocked. I gather from your other videos there are processes that convert free fatty acids to triglycerides, triglycerides to vldl, vldl to ldl; do we know more specifically where in the whole chain Hmg-CoA is involved? I'm under the impression that statins reduce not just ldl, but also triglycerides, so my guess would be it's similar to fish oils blocking the conversion of free fatty acids into triglycerides. If that's the case, I wonder what happens to the free fatty acids that would have otherwise been converted? Does the body have a harmless outlet for them? Or do they or other resultant products (adipose?) accumulate? Inquiring minds want to know! PS your pronounciation of decilitre had me very confused for a moment; it sounded to me like you were saying daL (10L) instead of dL (100mL). As a Canadian growing up with metric units, I've always known deci to be pronounced as "dessi", so as not to be confused with deca (dekka).

Wow this is awesome! I passed the quiz btw 😂 My doctor is putting on this medication as of today and I needed to know what was up with it. I’m already taking Cholestyramine and I guess it not working because my LDL’s are elevated . I’m allergic to the Statins. We tried that first my body was so sore, thought I aged in 3 days to about 99 years old 😢 I was like absolutely not. Trash this medication immediately 😥 But this was a great video. Praying I don’t get that fatigue side effect 🤞🏾🤞🏾
